Internet explorer 8 favorites not working windows 7


















I was back in business. IE8 wouldn't recognize the settings from the GPO setup. I hope this helps someone else down the road, if your settings aren't showing up, check the client PC Windows OS hasn't been destroyed by careless use. Isn't it funny how "bam" works? Thanks for the input I have just resoved this problem. I'm not sure how this happened but there seems to have been confusion between the 'Favorites Bar' folder and the old 'Links' folder in the Favorites directory, possibly occuring during the upgrade from Vista. For whatever reason there was no 'Favorites Bar' folder but all the items in the 'Links' folder were showing up on the Favories Bar. I removed the 'Links' folder from the directory and then on doing an 'Add to Favorites Bar' a new Favorites Bar folder was created into which I copied all the items from the old 'Links' folder, all now works correctly.

Sorry if this sounds confusing, but to be really confusing prior to this fix I found that if I disabled 'Protected Mode' it also worked correctly. Given the random workings you are experienceing it may be worth checking to see which folder you have.

I did some troubleshooting with restoring the default favorites folder and other things but overall, no solution for this specific condition: If the favorites folder is redirected, and protected mode is enabled, nothing will be shown if you click on the Favorites menu, however, they will be seen if side-panel is opened or in organize favorites menu. I can now see why a suppressed prompt could cause a blank screen and that WarnOnZoneCrossing could be involved when the URL is on a different machine that is being detected as Local. I still think that ProcMon could help reveal what is really happening.
